Our Team

Amy Hassel

I am a hair stylist and the owner of Gabby's Grand Salon. I went to Notre Dame High School and after graduation, went to Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio. After two years there, I decided to pursue my passion in the salon industry and attended Nationwide Beauty Academy in Columbus, Ohio. I moved back to Portsmouth in 1991 and began my career as a hair stylist. I started out working under Jennifer Young at Jennifer's Hair Gallery and then moved to open a small shop of my own, Amy's Hair Studio.

Thirteen years ago, I opened Gabby's Salon and at the time there was just Jan, Christina, and I. People think it's funny that Jan and I have been friends since first grade, going all through our schooling together and now work side by side. Four years after originally opening Gabby's, we were lucky enough to get an awesome esthetician, Tarrah! We did another renovation doubling Gabby's size and deemed the name Gabby's Grand Salon! Then on board came Alecia, our wonderful nail tech, and some more stylists, Krista, Janelle, and Amanda. We most recently welcomed Jeanne to our team! We have an amazing group of "Gabby girls!" I feel so blessed to be able to work with such talented stylists, and have a truly successful salon!

I am married to my husband, David and together we have three beautiful children, Alex, Sophia, and Ava. They are the joys of my life and keep me extremely busy when I'm not behind the chair! My parents, sister and brother (and their families) all live close by and I am extremely blessed to see everyone on a regular basis. My sister, Beth, runs the coffee shop next door and my parents help with making soup and mom makes the gelato!

Jan Gerken

I am one of the original "Gabby girls." I have worked side by side with the owner and my best friend, Amy Hassel for nearly 18 years, but the story doesn't start there. Twenty six years earlier, Amy and I started 1st grade together at Notre Dame in Portsmouth, Ohio and have remained friends ever since. Gabby's Grand Salon is more than just a work environment, it is an extension of a home environment, we are all like family.

I began my career in 1990 after attending Ohio State School of Cosmetology in Lima, Ohio. Over the years, I have had the privilege of serving many clients and have loved every minute of it - it has never felt like a job! The countless number of people who have entered through our doors here at Gabby's Grand Salon start as clients but then soon after become part of our family. I have met some amazing people in this community and have Gabby's Grand Salon to thank for that. I am so grateful and blessed for all my past and present clients and I look forward to serving the needs of new clients in the future.

Alecia Cooper

I am a nail tech at Gabby's. I have been married to my husband, David for almost 14 years and we have a son, Devon. I graduated from Portsmouth West High School in 1998, and went on to learn all about nails at Paramount Beauty Academy.

I have worked at Gabby's for over six years, and currently work Tuesday through Friday usually starting around 8:30 a.m. each day. My services include acrylic nails, both pink and whites and naturals, pedicures, manicures, and also shellac manicures. You can reach me at Gabby's or by cell: 740-464-3700.

Krista Gohmann

I am currently a managing stylist at Gabby's Grand Salon. I have been a Gabby girl for the last 7 years. I specialize in hair color, men's cuts and keratin treatments. You can find me at Gabby's every Wednesday and Friday.

I have 27 years experience working in this fabulous business. I previously owned and operated my own salon (Elite Hair) for 12 years. I have also worked as a platform artist with Wella color company and trained with American Crew men's cutting team. I have a wonderful husband, Fred and a beautiful daughter, Emma. In my free time, I coach the Notre Dame boys tennis team (Go Titans!).

Janelle Frazie

I absolutely love making people feel beautiful when they walk out of Gabby's Grand Salon. Having a mother as a hairdresser, I always had the desire to work in a salon. So as soon as I graduated high school, I went straight into beauty school at Paramount Beauty Academy, where I earned my license as a Cosmetologist. After graduating from Paramount Beauty Academy, I worked as an apprentice at Trios Salon in Springsboro, Ohio near Dayton. After two months of apprenticeship, I had the opportunity to work with these amazing women at Gabby's and I couldn't pass it up. Seven years later, I am still here at Gabby's Grand Salon, doing what I love to do, with a group of girls I love to be around.

My husband, Nate and I are high school sweethearts, married for 7 years. We have two sweet boys, Carter and Colton. They are our whole world and keep us laughing all day long!

You can catch me at Gabby's on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. I work early mornings through late evenings to accommodate with your schedule. You can reach me by calling Gabby's, or you and call/text me on my cell phone at 740-285-3810 with any questions or to schedule your appointment.

I am so proud to call myself a Gabby Girl. I have been at Gabby's since I graduated from Paramount Beauty Academy in December of 2008. I love all aspects of being a cosmetologist. Cuts, color, updos, and most importantly interacting with such amazing clients every day. We have a unique atmosphere at Gabby's, where everyone are not only colleagues, but friends.

I was born and raised in Portsmouth, which is where my husband, Matt and I live with our two young boys, Eli and Owen, and our baby girl Skywalker (our 3-year-old Morky). Faith, family, and cosmetology are what fulfill my life.

Call me to make an appointment to get a fresh new look or just maintain your already fabulous one!

Jeanne Estep

I graduated from Notre Dame High School in 2009. After high school I moved to Columbus, Ohio and attended The Aveda Institute of Cosmetology, graduating in July of 2010. I worked in Columbus at an Aveda salon for about 7 months, then I moved back to Portsmouth and worked in New Boston at Fiesta Salon for a year and a half. Since May 2013, I have worked at Gabby's Grand Salon. I love being a Gabby girl, and working in such an amazing environment!

I work Tuesday-Friday and currently am accepting new clients! My cell is 740-821-4613 or you can call the salon at 740-353-4229.

I also have coached Notre Dame JV volleyball team the past two years. This year I have just decided to help out as an assistant coach not a head coach, because I want to focus more on my clients and building up more of a clientele!
